Breaux Bridge Louisiana Crawfish Festival Near Lake Martin me Swamp Tours

Recognizing the community’s importance to one of the state’s favorite foods, the Louisiana Legislature in 1959 declared Breaux Bridge  the “Crawfish Capital of the World.” It was in the following year that the city held its first major crawfish festival. The Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has become one of the largest gatherings of world-famous Cajun, zydeco and swamp pop musicians. Close to three dozen bands typically perform on multiple stages during the three-day festival the first week of each May. A popular attraction for families from near and far, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival features loads of Cajun cuisine – and of course, crawfish served in every possible way – along with crawfish races, Cajun and zydeco dance contests, a carnival midway, a crawfish cook-off and a parade in honor of the Crawfish Queen.
